I have two points (a third was aired a long time ago and dismissed, so I wont raise that again):
1) Renaming "playoff" as "Final". Playoff, in general refers to competitions for third place or some scuffling in the pool/league stage to qualify for the knockout phase. Here it is used as the game that decides the "section" (this is the next point) champion, so the name "Final" seems to reflect the stature better.

2) "Section" seems to indicate an arbitrary splitting of teams, due to large numbers. There is a clear hierarchy here from strong to weak, and hence the term "Division" seems much more appropriate. It is also the term used in most sports league.

Both are more than anything else a case of these terms reflecting prior uses of those terms to mean something slightly different. We often used to have a semi-final followed by a final, hence the term playoffs was applied to both and such usage has continued. As we are now having a tourney where there will be 3/4th playoffs in two sections/divisions, the terminology is not entirely inaccurate this time around.

Similarly when we had pre-set rating divisions (U2000, U1800 etc), they would be subdivided into sections (or possibly it was the other way around, it was quite a while ago and I don't exactly remember). It's curious why section has stuck as the term we use, but I don't feel that it is being used incorrectly.
